Nature at Play

Springtime in Melbourne brings its own joys and wonders. Ours have come in the form of 'pet wars'. Our courteous and cool cat has been under attack from a starling who has obviously built a nearby nest. Our cat Michaela is wont to sit at the bedroom window watching the traffic pass, but in recent days has been subject to dive-bomb attacks while sitting and minding her own business at the window.

It becomes a source of constant distraction (it is almost past the amusement stage) to hear the bird and cat chirping (literally - the cat chirps!) at one another, often for extended periods. Allowing the cat outside is akin to animal cruelty, as the bird launches its bombing attacks at the cat's head! There's definitely no love lost here.

I am tempted to get out the ladder and go looking for the nest, but having seen the bird at work, I'm not prepared to risk being pecked off the ladder at such heights!

It makes for interesting entertainment. Only a few more weeks until the baby birds must be ready to fly the nest.

Strings and Sings

Sam's year level held their final strings concert yesterday, with Sam putting his skills on the cello on display with all his classmates. Sam missed the half-year concert, as he was ill, and was chuffed to finally put on display the skills he had learned through the year. He's also happy that he doesn't have to lug the cello to and from school each week!

This was backed up with the final performance of the Bumblebee choir. You can see Sam here in the middle as they sing the Aussie version of Jingle Bells... "Tramping through the bush, in a rusty Holden Ute, Kelpie by my side, Esky in the boot..." They also performed a moving version of "We are the Cham

Caleb's Championship Debut

Caleb made his championship debut for Bulleen Boomers last Friday night, playing in the Spring phase of practice games. He rose to the challenge, playing some strong defence, taking some good rebounds, dishing off a couple of assists, and scoring some baskets of his own. The team managed to turn around a 4-17 start to win by 14.
