The other side of birthdays

It strikes both Ev and I that, with Samuel turning 10 recently, we are no longer parents of young children. Another stage of life is upon us, with still another looming in the (not-so) distance. The journey of parenthood now requires that subtle shift from parent to mentor to friend to be well under way. The place where the growth of independence in our children matches up with responsibility...
But of course we deny that the ageing of our children means that we are growing older!!
